Another years' Field Day has come and gone. A bit smaller group this year, but always enjoyable. Some of us started out arriving Friday afternoon, and setting up camp. The weather was definitely in our favor this year. It was cooler, and breezy. We actually needed some warmth at night.
Saturday, we worked 4 Alpha, and did pretty well. John (KD9BYW) worked about 20 different states. We also had some visitors on Saturday - Dave (WB9HWE), Jim Paulsen (HWE's friend), and Dave's grandson Matt stopped by. It's always great to see them. BYW's daughter, Brandy, also came out to visit.
We wanted to simplify things a bit this year, and each became more self-reliant for food. Although each persons' rations were definitely shared. Kelvin (WB9BBQ) made his infamous beans for Field Day. (See the pictures for the beginnings of his beans. Lots-o-bacon! YUM.) The beans were rich, tasty and delicious - and expected every Field Day. Joe (KD9EJX), and his friend Eric, came by Saturday, and made us all his infamous Mrs. Grass' noodle soup. John came prepared with SPAM, and canned chicken bologna (from the dollar store). Always prepared, BYW had his bottle of Frank's hot sauce to spice things up.
The weather remained beautiful all weekend, which was a blessing compared to last year. (Whew! It was a scorcher last year.)
Hope to see you next year for Field Day 2018.

We are just starting talks about Winter Field Day 2018. I believe we are the only club in Chicago that does both. Please keep an eye on the website for future information. Hope to also see you there!
